SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University has been recognized in U.S. News & World Report's Best Online Programs rankings for 2024. SRU was ranked 138th on the list of Best Online Bachelor's Programs.
U.S. News & World Report is a national publication that publishes rankings each year to help prospective students choose the school that's right for them. In 2024, U.S. News evaluated 1,752 online degree programs.
SRU offers eight online bachelor's degree programs in accounting, health care administration, leadership studies, liberal arts, business management, marketing, nursing, philanthropy and nonprofit management.
SRU was also featured on the following list for specific online programs:
U.S. News defines an online program as one in which “a majority of the coursework required to complete the program can be completed through distance education courses that incorporate Internet-based learning technologies.”
The publication evaluated online colleges based on four categories:
Engagement (35%) refers to the extent to which a degree program promotes participation by allowing students to interact effectively with faculty and classmates in the same way they would in an on-campus environment.
Services and Technology (25%), which focuses on how the program incorporates various technologies to allow students to complete their coursework remotely. This category also considers the quality of student support services, career guidance, and financial aid resources.
Faculty Qualifications and Training (20%). Measures how well the qualifications of online instructors match those of on-campus faculty. This category also measures the effectiveness of resources used to train instructors to teach distance learners.
Peer evaluation (20%) is conducted among high-ranking academic colleagues to uncover intangible factors that affect program quality that cannot be captured through statistics.
Each program was evaluated based on the categories listed above, and rankings were calculated using data reported to U.S. News in statistical and peer reputation surveys.
