Universal has officially released the first look at Jurassic World: Rebirth, the seventh installment in the 31-year-old franchise. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Baillie and Mahershala Ali. It is directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Creators) and written by David Koepp, who wrote the original 1993 Jurassic Park film.
According to the official synopsis, the film will be set five years after the events of “Jurassic World Dominion,” in a time when “the planet's ecosystem has proven nearly inhospitable to dinosaurs.”
“The surviving species live in an isolated equatorial environment similar to the climate in which they once thrived,” the synopsis continues. “The three largest creatures inhabiting this tropical biosphere hold the key to a miracle life-saving medicine for humanity.”
The studio also revealed details about many of the film's characters. Johansson will play Zola Bennett, a covert operations expert who is hired to lead a team to extract DNA from three of the largest dinosaurs in existence. Ali will play Zola's partner Duncan Kincaid, Bailey will play paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, and Rupert Friend (Homeland) will play Martin Krebs, the head of the drug conglomerate that funds the expedition. The rest of Zola's team will be rounded out by Philippine Vergy (Station Eleven), Bachir Sylvain (BMF) and Ed Skrein (Deadpool).

They eventually come across a family of civilians whose “boat expedition is capsized by a predatory aquatic dinosaur,” at which point they all end up “stranded on an island where they face a sinister and shocking discovery that has been hidden from the world for decades.”
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer) plays Ruben Delgado, the father of a shipwrecked family that also includes Luna Blaze (Manifesto), David Iacono (Summer Becoming) and Audrina Miranda (Lopez Lopez).
Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley serve as producers on the film, with Steven Spielberg, Dennis L. Stewart and Jim Spencer serving as executive producers.
Jurassic World 3D is scheduled for release on July 2, 2025.
