HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Two men who police believe targeted Asian Americans on the city's southwest side have been arrested in connection to a home invasion in which they tied up a woman and beat her with a handgun.
Mario Watson, 31, and Anthony Alexander, 21, were charged with burglary, but court records detail the violent acts they are accused of.
One document states the victim was “struck over the head with a small black pistol” and “dragged into the living room on his knees.”
The incident happened Saturday in a small gated community on Ashford Shadow Drive near Beechnut.
Police sources said this was the second time the home had been broken into in a week, with jewelry and cash stolen. When ABC13 visited the scene on Wednesday, no one was home and neighbors said the residents had moved out.
On Saturday, sources said, officers happened to be in the middle of a pursuit when they saw the suspects run into a parked car and flee. Records show they were pursued by police for 6.5 miles. Only Watson and Alexander were arrested, while the other two fled.
“The defendants broke down the door to her home. She was a stranger to the defendants. They tied her up and demanded money. When she refused, she reported that the defendants struck her with their fists and that another co-star struck her with a handgun,” prosecutors said at Watson's initial court appearance on Sunday.
Both suspects were also charged with escape, and Watson faces additional drug charges for possession of methamphetamine.
HPD said the investigation is ongoing and more charges may be filed.
