SALT LAKE CITY — College football season is officially back on track!
All three of the state's FBS schools will be playing at home against FCS opponents, making for an exciting scene in each stadium. While every team has an equal chance at this point in the season, the first week will be the first opportunity for each fan base to get a sense of what to expect this season.
No. 12 Utah opens the season on Thursday night when it hosts Southern Utah at Rice-Eccles Stadium, with Cam Rising, Brant Kuisse and others returning to the field after a long wait. The Big 12 championship contenders have a lot to prove this season.
On Saturday, BYU will look to get off to a strong start in its second season in the Big 12 Conference when it welcomes FCS Southern Illinois to LaVell Edwards Stadium. It remains to be seen who will start under center, but fans will get their first look at the team's new QB then.
After a tumultuous offseason that included Utah State firing its head coach a month before fall camp, the Aggies welcome FCS-ranked Robert Morris to Logan. Can the Aggies put all that aside and start the season with a win?
And on the national radar, there are two games against highly ranked opponents: No. 19 Miami travels to Florida to take on Florida State University, which is coming off a 33-game winning streak to start the season in Gainesville, and No. 7 Notre Dame travels to The College State to take on No. 20 Texas A&M.
