U.S. News & World Report today released its Best Graduate Schools rankings for 2024, highlighting several graduate programs at the University of New Mexico. UNM has several programs ranked in the top 100, with Nursing-Midwifery leading the way at No. 11. Overall, 15 UNM colleges/schools and programs ranked in the top 100.
This ranking focuses only on graduate programs, unlike other rankings released by U.S. News and World Report, which focus on undergraduate and online programs. The publication releases its rankings annually, but focuses on different programs with each release. The release of rankings for best graduate schools in engineering, medicine, and clinical psychology, which were scheduled as part of this latest release, have been postponed, as explained in the release. Those rankings will be released at a later date.
Academic fields that made it into this ranking, for which the schools submitted statistical surveys, include Business (both full-time and part-time), Education, Law (both full-time and part-time), Nursing (both MSN and DNP).
Other UNM programs ranked in the top 100 include:
Education, No. 86 Business (Part-time MBA), No. 87 Law (Full-time), No. 94 Clinical Training – No. 19 Constitutional Law – No. 88 Contract Law/Commercial Law – No. 91 Criminal Law – No. 92 Dispute Resolution – No. 57 Environmental Law – No. 25
Additionally, U.S. News & World Report released research-based rankings for 11 other fields, including public policy, public health, social work, audiology, nursing anesthesiology, nurse-midwifery, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, speech-language-hearing pathology and computer science. The rankings were based solely on surveys of academic leaders in those fields.
Pharmacy, No. 44 Speech-Language-Hearing Therapy, No. 52 Occupational Therapy, No. 53 Physical Therapy, No. 92 Public Relations, No. 99 Computer Science, No. 105
Bigger changes for UNM included physical therapy, which rose 45 places, and speech-language-hearing therapy, which rose 20 places.
Each year, U.S. News ranks professional school programs, including business, education, law and nursing, as well as the specializations within each field. The best graduate school rankings in these fields are based on two types of data: expert opinion on the excellence of the programs, and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school's faculty, research and students and their post-graduation outcomes.
The data for the rankings in the four aforementioned areas comes from a statistical survey of 2,225 programs and a reputation survey sent to approximately 5,766 academics and 10,941 professionals, conducted between fall 2023 and early 2024.
