So passengers will be left with no choice but to soak up the buzz of Belfast this summer rather than sipping cocktails in the Caribbean.
Holly Hennessy, 67, from Florida, is a self-described “cruise addict” who is sailing with her cat, the Captain. She's making the most of her time on the ship in Belfast, but is eager to get out to sea. “I've always wanted to live on a ship, so this will be a dream come true,” she says.
Speaking about the weather in Belfast, Ms Hennessy told The Telegraph: “It doesn't feel like summer. It's winter for me. I'm used to the Florida sun. I had to go outside and buy some Vitamin D tablets.”
“We had a few sunny days and were able to get outside and walk along the river and people were so nice.
“You have to make the most of it. I've been walking all over Belfast and gotten to know all the shopkeepers. There are so many of us here so it's really helping the economy of Belfast.”
Hennessy typically spends summers in Milwaukee and said she feels “homesick” for the Midwestern city.
“As a traveller, things don't always go to plan, but for something like this to happen for three months is unusual,” she said. “I've already been on three round-the-world cruises, so it's not to visit countries, it's to live at sea.”
“That being said, I was looking forward to going to Southeast Asia.”
