On Friday, the Warsaw-Prague district court announced the verdict in the case of the death of a 78-year-old businessman and the robbery of his apartment. Five people were sentenced to 4.5 to 25 years in prison. According to the court, the guilt of the accused is not certain. The verdict is invalid.
The court found everyone guilty. He sentenced the two young men accused of the businessman's death to 25 years in prison and a fine of PLN 32,000. zloty He also ordered to pay PLN 300,000. PLN compensation to the entrepreneur's family and PLN 20,000. PLN compensation to the man who was injured in this case. In addition, both defendants must pay, among other things: drug addiction prevention awards.
The remaining three defendants were sentenced to 4.5 to 8 years in prison. They also need, among other things, fines, compensation for victims and compensation for the prevention of addiction.
“They are very frustrated”
During Friday's hearing, Judge Tomasz Kosinski read out the key part of the verdict and its rationale for more than an hour and a half.
In his oral statement, he emphasized that there is no doubt about the guilt of the accused. “They were acting together and in concert,” the judge noted.
He noted that the defendants knew what the course of the crime should be. “The defendants should have known that such an act could lead to death,” the judge said.
He mentioned that the young people sitting in the accused's chair did not express remorse and did not care about the consequences of their actions, and in the opinion of the court, despite their youth, they were “very depressed”.
He added that when imposing the punishment, the court took into account, among other things: the motive, the circumstances of the act and the way of behavior, which was very brutal.

The investigation of this case was completed at the end of March 2023 and the trial was completed in June 2023. “The youngest defendant is 24 years old and the youngest defendant is 18 years old,” the Warsaw-Prague District Prosecutor's Office reports.
The murder of 78-year-old Tadeush K. took place in the middle of January 2022. The youths decided to attack a merchant in Waver. They had information that an elderly man kept money and valuables in a safe in the house.
In the evening of January 12, they met with a friend of this man's grandson. He was gagged and tied with a rope.
“They placed him in the trunk of the car and took him to one of the buildings in the city of Isabella. There, using mental and physical violence, they forced him to provide the code of the armored safe,” the prosecutor's office said.
With the given numbers, the defendants went to the house of K.'s family, which is located on Traviana Street. The murder was supposed to take place there.
They attacked the injured side
Investigators found that the defendants entered the house through an open door. At this moment, the owner of the house woke up and was sleeping in the room where the safe was.
“The victim was thrown on the bed and crushed by the weight of both defendants. When he stopped resisting, the defendants tied his legs and hands, and the victim was no longer breathing,” said the prosecutor's office. As he emphasized in the indictment, they should take into account the deadly consequences of such actions.
According to the conclusion of the investigation, the defendants were driving a stolen car around Warsaw. Finally they decided to burn it. On January 13, 2022, the safe was opened and the loot was distributed.
In the indictment, the prosecutor charged the 21-year-old and 22-year-old with murder in connection with the robbery, and the remaining defendants with robbery to the detriment of the victim. Moreover, all the defendants have been accused of hostage-taking and robbery. Four suspects were charged with drug possession offenses. One accused had a weapon in the form of a gas gun without the necessary permit.
