The Republican Party's campaign headquarters has become the target of a cyberattack from China. Hackers broke into the phones of Donald Trump and vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance.
Investigators are currently trying to determine what data was stolen as a result of the attack, and what data was stolen. According to information provided to The New York Times by an anonymous source, the hackers were able to “deeply penetrate” overseas telephone networks.
American presidential election. Hacker attack from China
Access to the phones of presidential and vice presidential candidates could be a treasure trove for intelligence agencies. Everything matters: messages sent, phone numbers, calls, and even the length of the conversation.
President Donald Trump's staff was informed of the attack this week. It's still unclear whether the hackers were able to access the text messages.

Earlier, during the ongoing election campaign, security officials discovered the presence of a Chinese-linked hacker group called Salt Typhoon in US communications systems. Investigators recently determined that a specific phone number was targeted, but have not yet linked the two incidents.
The cyberattack breached the networks of some U.S. broadband providers and may have obtained information from systems used by the federal government as part of the FISA forensic wiretaps.
Iranian hacker attack on Trump campaign
President Donald Trump's staff has already been targeted by hackers from Iran. In August, Politico began receiving emails containing internal documents from the Republican campaign. It turns out they had previously been stolen from a Republican official's account.
Trump campaign spokesman Stephen Chan said officials began receiving phishing emails in June, which gave them partial access to communications and documents.
