The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its military objectives in Lebanon had been achieved and the government could facilitate a diplomatic solution. “Most of the terrorist infrastructure and ammunition near the Lebanese-Israel border has been destroyed,” the statement said.
On Tuesday morning, The Jerusalem Post published a statement from the Israel Defense Forces saying that Israeli forces had achieved their objective in southern Lebanon. The military emphasized that diplomats must now work to restore peace.
“According to the Northern Command, a large part of Hezbollah's terrorist infrastructure near the Lebanon-Israel border has been destroyed, and most of the weapons have been transferred to Israel or destroyed on site,” we read.

The IDF explained that there are still villages in Lebanon where the operation has not yet been completed.
The military said stabilizing the situation on the Lebanese border is now in the hands of diplomacy.

The Jerusalem Post points out that there are two possible scenarios if the Israeli government fails to resolve the situation in southern Lebanon.
The first is “continuation of military pressure through ground maneuvers and air strikes.”

The second is military control of areas occupied by Israeli forces. He added that in this scenario, “the military would need to expand its operational control of the village.”
The IDF says that regardless of whether a diplomatic solution is possible, the military must “present a model for enforcing peace in southern Lebanon.”
