The war in Ukraine is one of the most important topics of the election campaign in the United States – Trump assures that if he were in the place of Joe Biden, he would not have allowed the war to start. This, of course, cannot be verified in any way. Notably, he directs his criticism more at Zelensky than at Putin. Kamala Harris, in turn, calls the Russian president a bloodthirsty and criminal dictator
“As you know, I have a very good relationship with President Putin”, “Putin often told me that I was the apple of his eye” – these are the words we heard from Donald Trump.
Even about 50 times – often – Donald Trump, during the election campaign in the United States, mentioned the Russian president and praised him as a genius, a good chess player and his friend. He also mentioned Vladimir Zelensky, but in a slightly different way.
– I think that Zelensky is the best seller in history. Every time he comes to our country, he leaves with $60 billion, said Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate.
Trump: I'll end the war with one phone call
The topic of the war in Ukraine and the involvement of the United States in military aid to this country is raised almost throughout the election campaign of both presidential candidates. Donald Trump's position on this matter is quite clear, although the consequences of his promises are less. The former president has repeatedly said that if he had stayed in the White House, the attack on February 24, 2022 would not have happened.
– If I were the president, Vladimir Putin would never attack Ukraine. It will never, ever happen, said Donald Trump.
But – as soon as he gets power – he promises to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict not only in one day, but even with a phone call. The Kremlin quickly opposed this.

– The conflict in Ukraine cannot be ended by a telephone conversation. To do this, the United States needs to abandon its policy of using Ukraine as a disposable tool to suppress everything related to the Russian Federation, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on September 11.
The Kremlin also responded to the words of Donald Trump, who claimed in an interview with The Wall Street Journal two weeks ago that he threatened Vladimir Putin to attack Moscow in the event of an attack on Ukraine.
– I do not remember such a conversation with Mr. Trump. The election campaign in the United States has entered an intense phase, and I suggest not to take this statement seriously, explained Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The problem is that Donald Trump has never directly disclosed how he intends to fulfill his promises and end the war in Ukraine. However, the most detailed possible Trump peace plan was presented in September by the Republican vice presidential nominee.
It involves the Russians retaining their captured lands and establishing a demilitarized zone along the current front line. The rest of Ukraine must remain an independent and sovereign state, and Kiev must guarantee Russia that it abandons plans to join NATO. Critics of Donald Trump almost immediately said that it was a victory for Russia, and many Ukrainians do not hide that they are afraid of the return of the former American president to power.

– There are many signs that Trump is not helping Ukraine much. Everyone knows that it is unpredictable and it is very difficult to guess what will happen, said Andriy, a resident of Kyiv.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has sought to play down these concerns, often calling the openly pro-Russian rhetoric of Trump's campaign “electioneering messages.”
Harris: Putin won't stop
The description of the Democratic candidate in the context of Ukraine differs significantly from that of his Republican opponent. During the election campaign, Kamala Harris directly called Vladimir Putin a murderous dictator and accused Russia of committing crimes against humanity.
“History shows us that if we allow an aggressor like Putin to occupy the earth with impunity, he will not stop there,” said Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
He also promised to maintain his support and unwavering policy of Joe Biden towards Ukraine. However, many experts describe this approach as firm but cautious.

– In foreign policy, you can never say that you will not change your opinion. US President Joe Biden recently said, however, that there is currently no agreement on the use of long-range weapons.
Kamala Harris – like other NATO allies – also speaks with reluctance about the possibility of Ukraine joining this pact. “These are issues that we will deal with when the time comes,” Kamala Harris said.
Democrats are constantly warning that Donald Trump's return to power will be a gift to Vladimir Putin.
– Putin wants Donald Trump to win, and Donald Trump wants Putin to win, – concluded Tim Walz, the candidate of the Democrats for the post of vice president of the USA.
