19-year-old Italian mountaineer Mathilde Lorenzi has died. Tragic news broke out in the Apennine media on Tuesday. The athlete was seriously injured during training. She died at the hospital.
The tragedy happened on Monday. Lorenzi hit his head on the ice while training on the Grawant G1 slope on the Senales glacier in South Tyrol.
Alpeica was intubated and taken by helicopter to San Maurizio Hospital in Bolzano. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, her condition appeared to be very serious from the beginning. Doctors were unable to save her. The young woman suffered a severe brain injury as a result of the fall.

Her death was announced by the Italian Ministry of Defense on Tuesday. Lorenzi, who would have turned 20 on November 15, was a former military club player. She held the rank of corporal.
“We would like to express our deepest condolences and condolences to his family and colleagues,'' Department Secretary Guido Crosset said.

Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also commented on the tragedy and sympathized with Lorenzi's loved ones. “Crystal talent shattered by fate. Rest in peace, young master,” he wrote.
Flavio Roda, president of FISI (Italian Winter Sports Federation), said the association was “in mourning”.

According to preliminary findings, one of the skis escaped from the athlete, which led to her fall.
