War in Ukraine. Death of a Russian General
Pavel Klimenko commanded the 5th Donetsk Motorized Rifle Brigade. Its members are said to be extremely cruel. In April 2024, they led to the death of American war blogger Russell Bentley.
Bentley was accused of being an American spy working for NATO. In fact, he sympathized with the invaders and wanted to “liberate Donbass.” A drunken Russian mercilessly took his life.
The Kiev Independent reported that Klimenko was very strict with his subordinates. He forced Russian soldiers to give up their salaries in exchange for transfer from the front. He is said to have established a torture camp in occupied Donetsk, into which unruly fighters were sent.
The 47-year-old is the eighth Russian general to die during the ongoing war in Ukraine.
