A vote of confidence in the minority government of Olaf Scholz will be held on December 16th. In his speech to the Bundestag, the German Chancellor confirmed reports about organizing early parliamentary elections, while calling for continued work on a number of previously proposed laws.
It was the first appearance of a German government leader in the Bundestag since the resignation of Finance Minister Christian Lindner. This decision ultimately led to the collapse of the ruling coalition of SPD, Greens, and FDP, necessitating early elections. “This decision was correct and inevitable,” he said.
Olaf Scholz has announced that he will formally request a vote of confidence in the government from parliament on December 11th. Congress is expected to take a decision on the issue on December 16th.

However, the German chancellor pointed out that “support for Ukraine cannot come at the expense of the country's prosperity.” – It will not lead to a reduction in pensions or benefits (…). I emphasized that I would never force the people to choose between security and prosperity.
