Local media reported that one of the visitors to the Curitiba zoo in southern Brazil jumped into a pool with hippos and then ended up in a place where monkeys were. The guards of the zoo managed to catch this man and then handed him over to the authorities.
According to the witnesses of the unusual event, the hippos looked at the man who was swimming next to them with surprise. Animals that are dangerous for humans did not react aggressively to the appearance of an intruder in their area.
Footage released by IRC TV on Saturday shows a man wearing a number 10 football shirt swimming in a pool, then shouting at the hippos and then running towards the other animals.
The aggressor, as reported by Brazilian radio, warned the group of tourists present that he intended to “play” with them before jumping over the wall that separates the humans from the monkeys. The man ran to one of the monkeys and tried to talk to it. Seeing a sudden guest, the animal jumps and approaches the attacker.
“The man interacted with the animals, but didn't touch any of them,” Radio Band concluded, noting that zookeepers were able to get the intruder out of the animal area “safely.”
Then, this man was sent to the hospital for a psychiatric examination under police supervision.
