Russia wants to attack Zaporozhye, one of the main industrial centers of Ukraine, The Economist wrote, referring to information from the Ukrainian intelligence services. According to Kyiv, up to 130,000 troops may participate in the attack.
It is not yet known when the attack on Zaporozhye, which is located 30 kilometers from the front line, could take place. It is the main city of the Zaporozhye region, which is partially under the occupation of Russia.
“Economist” emphasized that Zaporozhye – one of the three main industrial centers of Ukraine – is of decisive importance for the economy and activity of the country. Before Moscow invaded Kyiv, the city was home to over 700,000 people.
Ukrainians are preparing for a possible Russian attack and are strengthening the defense around the city. Reinforcements, new mine sites and structures made of concrete and iron are being built. “In 2023, during the unsuccessful invasion of Ukraine, every square meter of this area was the subject of world news. Now the Russians are repelling the attacks and very few people are paying attention to it,” we read.
Bombs fell on Zaporozhye
On November 7, Russian bombs fell on Zaporozhye. As a result of the attack, 42 people were injured and eight people died, including a one-year-old child.
“11 skyscrapers and more than 40 private sector buildings were damaged,” the city government reported.

At the end of 2022, Vladimir Putin announced that the entire Zaporozhye region would be annexed. A third of the province was under his army.
