It was Saturday, around 14, when the police were called about an angry man. He was supposed to be running in the courtyard of a residential house in the Prague district of Warsaw. During the intervention, one of the police officers was killed by a police bullet.
– the policemen were obviously surprised. You could see the anger as the policeman's friend, the second undercover agent, kicked in the door. (…). Look how dazed and catatonic the policeman who shot his colleague was. This man, who was happily running with a machete, could hear: “Carolina, they love you, they will kill me.” Well, he was not awake, says the witness.
– This policeman (who shot – ed.) was destroyed, he was taken by other officers to the police car, which was actually standing next to the incident, – adds Lukash Raitel, a city reporter, who was also at the scene of the incident.
The deceased policeman was an experienced crime branch officer. He was 35 years old and had two children.

– A great tragedy happened. Both for the family of the deceased policeman and for the policeman who raised the handle by mistake. He simply misread the situation, says Andrzej Kawczynski, retired head of the KSP's Criminal Terrorism and Homicide Department.
It is said that this 36-year-old man was running with a machete on Injinerska Street.
It turns out that the machete-wielding man whose work was interfered with by the authorities, including the police, is well known. from drug crimes. For many years, he caused problems and quarrels with the residents of the area.
There is also a community center of Prague in the courtyard of the residence. As the activists of the Prague station reported on social networks, they repeatedly informed the services about the situation in the apartment.
– A case has already been opened against this person. It involved criminal threats, physical harm and drug possession, said prosecutor Norbert Wolinski, spokesman for the Warsaw-Prague District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw.

– When you pass by them, you hear: “hidden, hidden.” There is a guard on the street, and the trade itself takes place in a well, behind a barricade of furniture. I think that they have places to escape there, and as soon as the police arrive, the goods disappear, – says our interlocutor.

– After 5 p.m., several hundred people pass by, several per minute. The goods are usually available all the time, and when there is a shortage, gentlemen announce a new delivery by shooting fireworks, – adds our interlocutor.
“Incorrect assessment of the situation”
There are opinions that the tragedy in Prague is the result of the bad situation of the Polish police: underinvestment, lack of work, low demand for new recruits.
– First of all, the etiology of these events goes deeper. Here we have to look at the fact that the recruitment criteria for the police have been lowered. Among other things, psychophysical preparation, in this case, we were probably dealing with the lack of ability to deal with the stress of this single and young officer – says Andrzej Mrocek, former police officer, security expert of Collegium Civitas. – wrong assessment of the situation. As a result, he lost himself, could not bear it, and behaved inappropriately.
According to the specialist, in these circumstances, the police should not use weapons, even if the person is not identified by the officer. But he emphasized that we cannot shed light on everything, because the prosecutor's office is engaged in this work.
– Police scouts are working here who know this area well and have come and been called to neutralize this threat. The policemen who came here after school, at least one of them stayed on the street. He was the so-called “inhibition”. He stood there and secured the situation, misjudged it and fired at the man. The dynamics of this situation may have meant that it was not time to share this information – says Bertold Kittel, journalist of “Superwizjer”.
