Killer whales live in British Columbia waters, but are rarely seen in downtown Vancouver. Experts contacted by local media believe that the animals may be hunting snakes living in the harbor.

Orcas (Orcinus orca) are the largest representatives of the dolphin family (Delphinidae). They are found in both the warm tropical waters and the icy waters around Antarctica. The length of adult males reaches 980 centimeters. There are different ecotypes of killer whales that differ genetically, morphologically and ecologically.
So far, three subspecies have been distinguished: the common killer whale (O. orca orca), the resident killer whale (O. orca ater) and the migratory killer whale (O. orca rectipinnus).
