Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sibikha told Ukrinform correspondent that the Ukrainian side has already contacted the Polish side and asked them to provide premises for the Russian consulate in Poznań.
The head of Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Kiev is ready to take over the building and turn it into its own consulate.
– Ukraine is interested in using the site of the former Russian consulate in Poznań. I am grateful to my Polish colleague for this suggestion. “We have already sent an official letter to the Polish side with the appropriate requests and are waiting for concrete details,” Ukraine's diplomatic chief said.
– He explained that the Greater Polish Voivodeship has a large number of Ukrainian nationals, which is why Poznań is being considered as one of the possible locations for expanding the consular presence in Poland.

Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski recently said that if Ukraine submits an application to use land belonging to the former Russian consulate in Poznań and open its own consulate there, the application will be treated with “the utmost sympathy.” He said that it would be handled accordingly.

– Considering the unprecedented growth in the number of Ukrainian citizens in Poland, today's network of Ukrainian consulates does not reflect the needs of consulates. And we will consider such a request from the Ukrainian side with the utmost sympathy, said the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Russian consulate in Poznań was closed. The Minister of Foreign Affairs explained the reason.
At the end of October, Sikorski announced that he had withdrawn his consent to run the Russian consulate in Poznań. He explained that the staff would be considered “persons undesirable to the Republic of Poland.”
