– Warsaw has been using EU money for decades for projects that are key for us, that is, the development of public transport, – said the mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Trzaszkowski, on Thursday at the conference.
He noted that it was not an easy task, because at the beginning the European Commission decided not to finance the metro and did not recognize this project as a railway project, as in previous years.
– Today, this amount is becoming a reality – more than one billion zlotys will be transferred to complete the construction of the second metro line and for tram projects, including the tram to Villanov, Zachodni or Rakovecka stations, – noted Trzaskovsky. As he said, large projects show that Warsaw can develop with the support of European funds.
Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak emphasized that transport is the lifeblood of the economy. – If we manage to get money for a very expensive investment, this is the key to investment development, – he added.
The capital will receive a total of 2 billion and 25 million pounds for the development of public transport. The money transferred to Warsaw comes from the European Infrastructure, Climate and Environment Fund for 2021-2027 (FEnIKS).
