– The changes are very big – buildings, different investments. Our farmers are developing very well, they have various subsidies, – explained a resident of one of the Podlasie villages to the question of how his region has changed after Poland's accession to the European Union. – Roads are better and money is more. The houses are also more beautiful and everything under the fence was wrapped, – admitted another interlocutor. In addition to general satisfaction, there were also critical voices among the villagers. They touched on rural life in conditions of rising prices. – It was easier before, I could save a little money from the economy, but now, unfortunately, I pay more than 500 PLN for electricity, – admitted an older woman who was angry about inflation. “The village should flourish with prosperity, but we have nothing,” said another resident of the village. – Once upon a time, farmers went to each other and asked what they were planting and what they were planting. At the same time, there is no more human contact where neighbors can talk to neighbors or come for a cup of tea, another farmer recalled. – In our country, a lot of money was received from the EU for roads, public centers, sports fields and many other things, – said another interlocutor. – In order to help the farmers, we need real help, not promises. If the milk in the store costs, for example, 5 PLON, the farmer will be paid a penny for it. There would be nothing without farmers, concluded the resident of Podlasie.
