An explosion on Friday damaged a canal supplying water to the cooling systems of two coal-fired power plants near the town of Zubin Potok. Damage from the explosion caused power and water outages.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that this was a criminal attack of a terrorist nature aimed at destroying critical infrastructure of our country and suggested that the attack was carried out by “Serbian-led experts.”
The Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the words of the head of the Kosovo government. The ministry's head Marko Duric strongly condemned the damage to the canal and denied claims by Kosovar authorities of a “terrorist attack”.
“Such destructive actions are unacceptable and threaten the stability we strive for,” he stressed, adding that the accusations are baseless and aimed at diverting attention from the problem.
Kosovo canal explosion. Prime Minister Viktor Orban calls for a 'comprehensive investigation'
Dozens of hours after the incident, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also commented on the incident. Budapest government leaders appealed for political sentiment to be restrained and for a detailed investigation to be organized to explain the circumstances that led to the explosion.
“We condemn the attack on Kosovo's critical infrastructure in Zubin Potok. We call for an impartial and comprehensive investigation, not biased condemnation,” he told X Platform.
“Restraint is necessary to avoid further escalation in the region,” he added.
