Jamie Lee Komoroski has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for driving drunk and hitting a newlywed couple on their way home from a wedding. At the time of the collision, the 27-year-old was driving twice the speed limit. The bride died in the accident. Komoroski confessed his guilt.
A Charleston judge sentenced Jamie Lee Komorski to 25 years in prison. The woman was found guilty of driving while intoxicated and causing death by “negligence”.
Last April, the 27-year-old drove a speeding car into a decorated golf cart in which Aric Hutchinson, 36, and his wife Samantha, 34, were returning from a wedding. The bride died at the scene.
The incident occurred in Folly Beach, South Carolina. The blood alcohol level allowed by local law for a driver is 0.8 ppm. The amount found in Comoroska's blood was more than three times higher. According to the police, speeding was also a factor in the accident. He was traveling at 65 mph (105 km/h) on a 25 mph (about 40 km/h) road.

“He destroyed many lives”
The golf cart in which the bride and groom were traveling rolled several times as a result of the collision with Komoroski's car. The bride died at the scene. Before her death, this woman allegedly told her new husband that “she wanted this night to never end”. As a result of the accident, 36-year-old Arik Hutchinson was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Two relatives who were carrying the newlyweds were also injured.
– I want to turn back time and avoid this terrible tragedy. But I can't. Komoroski said during the trial that I will deeply regret that night for the rest of my life. The 27-year-old admitted that only after the accident did he realize that he had a drug addiction problem. He also stated that he will spend the rest of his life trying to educate others about the dangers of drunk driving.
Brad Warner, the victim's father, said he did not accept Komoroska's apology. He addressed the 27-year-old directly, saying he had “destroyed a lot of people's lives” and that he would “always hate him”. Last year, mother Lisa Miller made such a statement. This woman emphasized that what happened to her daughter was “not accidental”, but was the result of Komoroska's decision. – This woman decided to drink and sit behind the wheel – he said.
