Michel Barnier may lose power. A motion of no confidence was filed.
In France, not one, but two no-confidence motions were filed against Michel Barnier's government. The prime minister is in a serious predicament. This is because the following parties that opposed the prime minister have a real chance of passing the bill. Marine Le Pen expressed her support. If the government fails to persuade parliamentarians, it will be France's shortest term in power in 66 years.
On Monday, two French political groups, the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) and the far-right National Rally (RN), submitted a motion of no confidence in the government of Michel Barnier in parliament.
France. A motion of no confidence was filed.
The Audit Committee, together with a group of right-wing MPs led by Eric Ciotti, tabled a no-confidence motion. They do not belong to the RN but support this party. This was signed by 140 MPs.
Each of these proposals, although separate, could end the Barnier government. A no-confidence motion requires 289 votes, and the RN and far-left forces together have more than 300 seats in parliament.
The left had long threatened to remove the government, but the far right's position was crucial. Marine Le Pen, head of the RN parliamentary group, said she supports the no-confidence motion filed by the left.

The process requires a vote to be cast within 48 hours of submitting the application. Both motions will be debated first and then voted on separately. The Audit Committee plans to support the left-wing proposal, as announced, but the NFP has not said whether it will take a similar action.
If the Barnier minority center-right government that took office on September 21 this year collapses, it will be the shortest-serving cabinet in the history of the Fifth Republic, or since 1958. The last time a government resigned in France was in 1962 in a vote of no confidence.
