Syrians living in Germany celebrate the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in the streets of Berlin
German daily newspaper Der Spiegel reported on Monday that the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees will not process asylum applications from Syrians until further notice. A spokesperson for the agency justified the decision citing the instability of the situation in Syria in the face of recent events.
Recent events in Syria have led to the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, which had ruled the country continuously for 24 years. As rebels entered Damascus on Sunday, the dictator fled and was eventually granted asylum by his ally, President Vladimir Putin.

Der Spiegel reported that the situation in Syria is chaotic and it is very difficult to predict how political issues will develop.
He explained that it is difficult to make a serious assessment at this point and any decision would be made on the basis of “feet of clay”.

According to German authorities, Monday's decision concerns exactly 47,270 asylum applications submitted by Syrians.
