100 reserves for the 100th anniversary of the state forest. New nature reserves are being established all over Poland under this slogan. Only in the Podlasie Voivodeship, six have already been organized. One of them – “Land of the Rospuda Valley” – is symbolic of the fact that here, almost 20 years ago, environmental organizations protested against the construction plans of the Augustov road in these areas.
According to the orders of the Regional Directorate of Environmental Protection within the campaign “100 Reserves for the 100th Anniversary of the State Forest”, which falls this year. Until now, 53 nature reserves have been created throughout Poland.

To preserve the ecosystem of the largest peat bog
Three new nature reserves were created in the Augustów Forest and another in the Knyszynska Forest.
The largest of them (covers about 264.6 hectares) is the “Rospuda Valley Reserve”, which is designed to preserve the largest peat ecosystem in the Augustov forest.
They fought not to build a road here
– This is a really symbolic place. Almost 20 years ago, it was here that environmentalists, activists, as well as people associated with science and environmental protection, fought to prevent the expressway from passing through here, – said our reporter Mateusz Grzymkowski on TVN24.
Finally, the planned Augustov crossing in the Rospuda valley was built in another option – through Rachki.
– We are happy that the state foresters have chosen such diverse and valuable areas as part of their campaign, – said Adam Yuchnik, director of the RDOs in Bialystok, in front of the TVN24 camera.
