The moment of the accident was captured on video and posted online. It shows the pilot circling the aircraft for long periods of time on a busy highway, constantly reducing flight speed.
At one point, the plane flew over the road and the pilot tried to take advantage of the length of the road to land. His attempt failed. Records show parts of the machine scattered across multiple lanes of the road.
In addition to police and FAA personnel, firefighters and local authorities were also on scene. One witness to the incident confirmed in an interview with The Associated Press that he saw part of the incident and then noticed the injured but conscious pilot. But he couldn't get it out of the machine on his own.
