Prosecutors had asked for a four-year prison sentence for the defendant, which was the punishment imposed by the court on Thursday. It said there was insufficient evidence of guilt in the case, despite expert opinions and witness testimony, despite the defense's request for acquittal. The accident occurred on the evening of August 22, 2020 on National Highway 88 near Kreszczów Junction (Silesia Voivodeship). According to prosecutor Jerzy S., the Volkswagen driver started overtaking the bus in front of him. He did not notice the Renault Trafic coming from the opposite direction. Drivers of cars and buses took defensive action. Traffic drove the car to the side of the road, overturned, and then began to slide along the road. The car collided with a bus traveling from the opposite direction.
The force of the impact was so great that the bus was completely crushed. Everyone driving the Renault was killed. A total of seven people, the bus driver and six passengers, were injured.
