Five people were shot dead in northern France. The killings took place in two communes near Dunkirk: Wormhout and Rune Plage. Hours later, a 22-year-old man turned himself in to police and admitted the crime.
It all started on a Saturday afternoon. An unknown gunman shot and killed a man near the town of Wormhout. The killer then got into a car and drove towards an industrial area in the commune of Ruehn-Plage.

There he met two refugees of Kurdish origin near the road and shot them dead as well.

Immediately afterwards, the gunman opened fire on two security guards guarding the industrial park. The men died at the scene, local daily La Voie du Nord reported.
Hours later, a 22-year-old man turned himself in to police and admitted the crime. Local media reported that a gun was found in his car.

Dunkirk Mayor Patrice Bergliete said the motive for the attack “remains unclear”. “I don't understand how this could have happened,” said Wormhout Mayor David Kalcoen.
