– There was a lot of snow, the winter was hard. We had to carry sand and gravel in the car. They shoveled snow when they ran out of fuel, but were always surprised. – Winters were terrible, there was no wall. “There was a lot of snow, there was a lot of snow,” our interlocutors said when we asked them how they remember the past winters. During the last decades, it has been observed that in Poland there is less and less snow in winter and the temperature is not so low anymore. In recent years, short periods of extreme cold with snowfall, covered by melting snow, have become more common. Snow falls rarely and lasts for a short time, so WP correspondent Marek Gorczak asked the residents of Białystok how they remember the winters of their youth. The vast majority of passers-by said that winter in Poland used to be different. – We had to walk to school because no cars were passing by. – It was a severe winter, there was no snowfall. – The atmosphere was more, there is no New Year's mood without this snow, – explained the residents of Bialystok.
