Tornadoes in central California hijacked cars, toppled trees and utility poles and injured several people. Nearly 250,000 people in the western part of the country were without electricity. Iowa and Nebraska were hit by ice storms, and New York was hit by a lake-effect snowstorm.
The National Weather Service (NWS) reported that the Scotts Valley tornado moved at a speed of approximately 180 km/h. Local police said several injured people were taken to hospital.
A tornado warning was issued for the first time in San Francisco, according to NBC News. Trees fell on cars and roads, damaging roofs. There were no tornadoes, according to the NWS. The damage was caused by winds of 130km/h.

Heavy snowfall reached 1 meter in California's Lake Tahoe area, and wind speeds reached about 180 km/h. The avalanche warning remains in effect until Monday.
American tornado. 250,000 people without electricity
Poweroutage.US, which monitors power outages, reported that the number of customers without power in California rose to about 225,000 on Saturday afternoon, but dropped significantly on Sunday. Tens of thousands of people in Western Washington were without power. Some roads were closed, including portions of Interstate 80.
Severe weather across the Midwest resulted in at least one death. A 57-year-old woman died in an accident after losing control of her car near Arlington, Nebraska. A second driver was injured in the crash. An ice storm created dangerous driving conditions in Iowa. Hundreds of accidents were also reported in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

A blizzard caused dangerous conditions in northeast New York. At Orchard Park, 84cm was recorded, related to the lake effect where a cold air mass flows over relatively warm water. Heat and moisture from the reservoir are transferred into the atmosphere, and the heated air rises and rapidly cools, forming clouds. This phenomenon is often accompanied by snowstorms.
