The independent website Meduza reports that Russian judge Vladimir Kirill Nikiforov, who rejected the opposition's complaint against Alexei Navalny about the penal colony, has been promoted. The order was signed by Vladimir Putin.
Russian President Vladimir Putin nominated the judge who rejected the opposition's appeal against Alexei Navalny in the Vladimir region correctional colony where he was serving his sentence, the independent Meduza website reported on Monday.
According to the decree of December 13, the former Vladimir city judge Kirill Nikiforov became the judge of the Vladimir district court. He dismissed Navalny's complaints about the conditions of his sentence in Mielekhov Colony No. 6 in the Vladimir region and his regular detention in prison.

Navalny's appeal was rejected, the death of an opponent
Mediazona reported that in 2022, Nikoforov rejected Navalny's appeal of illegal solitary confinement, and in January 2024, a month before the opposition's death, dismissed his appeal of solitary confinement for 12 days.
On February 16, Russian authorities announced the sudden death of Navalny, the Kremlin's most prominent political opponent. Navalny is said to have died under unknown circumstances in a labor camp above the Arctic Circle, where he was serving 19 years in prison and was facing up to 30 years in prison.

Previously, the opposition was imprisoned in the IK-6 colony in Mielekhov, about 250 kilometers east of Moscow.
In March 2024, Nikiforov was added to the list of people under sanctions by the European Union and Canada for his role in the death of Navalny.
