Turkish archaeologists claim to have discovered a tomb containing the remains of Saint Nicholas. This is, of course, a story about a Catholic bishop who lived in the ancient city of Myra at the turn of the 3rd and 4th centuries. Turkish archaeologists say the remains may contain the remains of St. Nicholas, the generous Christian bishop and saint who was the inspiration for the commercial figure with the red cloak and gray beard. Found a possible sarcophagus.
The discovery was made in St. Peter's Church. Nicholas in Demre, Antalya district, where the city of Myra was located in ancient times. It was in this city that Bishop Nicholas lived at the turn of the 3rd and 4th centuries.

Santa Claus in Bari. A mistake that continues to this day?
If the archaeologists' discovery is confirmed, it will cause quite a sensation. Until now, it was believed that St. Nicholas' body was in Bari, Italy. When Myra, then a Greek city, was invaded by Seljuk Turks in 1087, they were taken over by Italian merchants.
Another Italian city, Venice, also boasts the site of the ruins of St. Nicholas of Myra.
So where do these contradictions come from? After all, mistakes may have been made hundreds of years ago. Based on recently discovered documents, the body of another unidentified priest was found in Bari. Research has confirmed that the remains from Venice belong to the same person.

St. Nicholas is a Catholic saint as well as one of the most revered Orthodox saints. This is a very mysterious figure, as references to him do not appear until the 6th century, more than 200 years after his alleged death.
According to legend, Nikolai inherited a large fortune from his parents, which he willingly distributed to the poor. He was so distinguished by piety and mercy that the inhabitants of Myra elected him bishop.
