The bomber who plowed into a crowd at a Christmas market in Magdeburg on Friday night was from Saudi Arabia, Germany's Welt newspaper reported unofficially, citing information obtained from news agencies. The perpetrator of the tragedy was born in 1974.
“He was supposed to rent a car shortly before the attack. The assailant is currently in police custody,” we read.
A Magdeburg police spokesperson said it was still unclear whether the man acted alone.

Daily newspaper Bild reported that between 60 and 80 people were injured and 11 may have died in the attack, citing rescue teams and police.
The attack occurred at 7:04 p.m. The driver was arrested shortly after. Initial findings indicate that the vehicle involved in the incident is a dark-colored BMW.
Fair organizers urged people to stay away from the city centre. Emergency services and the fire brigade are at the scene. “Police are searching the fenced area of the Christmas market for explosives,” Bild newspaper reported.
