The German city of Magdeburg has expressed its condolences after a driver hit people at a Christmas market on Friday. According to official data, two people were killed and more than 60 injured in the incident.
The city's official website announced that all cultural institutions in the city, including theaters, puppet theaters and museums, will remain closed for the next few days as a mark of remembrance.
Mayor Simone Boris expressed her condolences to the families of the deceased and expressed her deepest sympathies to all those injured. “I am shocked and deeply moved and my heart goes out to the victims and their loved ones. We will stop in front of the west entrance of St. John's Church to remember the victims and lay flowers immediately. “We will take the opportunity (. . .) On Saturday at 7pm, a one-hour memorial service will be held in the cathedral to unite as a society during this difficult time,” the mayor said.
