Deo Kato from Uganda will complete his 516-day run from Cape Town to London on Sunday, the Guardian reported.
The athlete has already covered a distance of 12,440km. He told the newspaper that his transcontinental marathon was aimed at raising awareness about racism and the fate of migrants crossing the route from Africa to Europe.
Ugandans admitted that despite some very unpleasant and dangerous events, the experience of escape itself had restored their faith in people.
One of Kato's most moving moments was when a group of Kenyan children on their way to school spontaneously joined in the run. “They wanted to keep running with me,” he recalls.

According to his own testimony, the man repeatedly experienced racial discrimination after arriving in Europe.
– When I was in Croatia, I thought about quitting running because I felt like an illegal immigrant. I didn't feel welcome and part of society. He said he was stopped by police at least four times a day.
