Robert Fico published details of his conversation with the Russian president on Facebook Sunday night. At the outset, he pointed out that Sunday's meeting with President Putin was the result of President Volodymyr Zelensky's clear opposition to Russia's gas transit through Ukraine.
“I would like to once again point out that I am a supporter of sovereignty policies covering all corners of the world,” the Slovak prime minister wrote, recalling the planning declaration of his government.
He also wrote that the EU's top representatives were informed about the Moscow visit and its purpose on Friday. He stressed that the meeting with President Putin was a response to the words of Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskiy, who said he opposed any gas transit through Ukraine.

Robert Fico visits Moscow. Slovak opposition party
The prime minister's office has not disclosed the details of the prime minister's visit to Moscow and its outcome. It is not entirely clear whether the Fico-led government's coalition partners knew about the visit.
The media also wrote that it was unclear how Fico ended up in the Russian capital. According to sources, none of the special aircraft controlled by the Slovak authorities flew to Russia.
The visit was harshly criticized by opposition politicians. Most often, it was emphasized that this would be embarrassing for Slovakia and would undermine the cooperation of its allies within the EU and NATO. He also reiterated his statement that Kiev's attitude will be key to whatever agreement Mr. Fico and Mr. Putin reach regarding Russian gas destined for Slovakia. It was stressed that Fico should talk to local politicians.
