German customs has seized more than 4 tons of illegal fireworks from Poland. This isn't the end, with more deliveries expected in the coming days. “We issue an urgent warning not to order from such sellers,” officials said in a statement.
Customs in Hannover seized several tons of various illegal fireworks. More than 460 parcels with a total weight of more than 4.4 tonnes have been recovered since last Thursday, the main customs office in Lower Saxony's capital said.

“We expect that there will be many more such parcels,” Hannover Customs spokesman Enrico Bacher said. As explained, the sender of the pyrotechnics is based in Poland, and the recipients are various people from all over Germany.

Authorities learned of the incident thanks to a tip from one of the delivery men, who suspected that the package contained an incendiary substance, which was later confirmed by customs officials.
“We issue an urgent warning not to order fireworks from such vendors,” the agency said in a statement. According to current estimates, crackers, which are typically used on New Year's Eve, are not the only dangerous and prohibited fireworks.

– In addition to serious health risks, ordering fireworks without proper permits is a crime. Thanks to this, we protect many people – Bacher recalls. In his opinion, it is “sad” that so many fireworks were discovered.
