Hungary under Orbán's command is turning into a country of fallen dictators and wanted criminals – says the leader of the Hungarian opposition, who, according to polls, has a chance of winning the next election there, about the case of Marcin Romanovsky. If Orbán does not hand over Romanowski to Poland, even though he is officially obliged to do so, will his successor do it? But can it happen sooner?
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrzej Sejna announced that Poland will go to court if Hungary does not extradite Marcin Romanowski. – We are determined to take Hungary to the Court of Justice of the European Union, – says the politician.
Appealing to the CJEU is a tedious and time-consuming process, but it will certainly be another element of pressure – both on Orbán and Romanovsky himself.

– Let Mr. Romanovsky not doubt. He is a person who is wanted in Poland and wanted abroad, – reminds the Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk. – Mr. Romanovsky is obliged to return as soon as possible to Poland, from where he fled, and surrender himself to the justice system, – emphasizes Marshal of the Seimas Shimon Kholunia.

Romanovsky gives an ultimatum
Romanovsky is wanted on an arrest warrant, and prosecutors are pursuing a number of charges against him, including participation in an organized criminal group. The former deputy minister fled to Hungary and received asylum there, but under EU law, the Hungarian government is obliged to execute the European Arrest Warrant. Brussels has already intervened in this matter. A possible CJEU ruling could cost Orbán's government dearly.
– If Orbán plays in Putin's orchestra, he might be deprived of European funds, his pipeline will soften a little, – explains Tomasz Trela, a leftist MP.
At the moment, Marcin Romanovsky does not intend to return, he broadcasts secretly on social networks. He makes a bet for Poland and PiS supports him in this.
– Most of the time, guilty people escape, so I think that Mr. Romanovsky confessed his guilt in this way, – says Marcin Kirwinski, authorized representative of the government for post-flood reconstruction. – At the moment, we are not dealing with the justice system, but with the justice system, – says the law and justice deputy Petr Kaleta.
This case heats up political feelings. PiS is about the lawless state, the coalition is about treason. Only the PiS presidential candidate does not know what to say. – Mr. Nawrocki, who should be the PiS presidential candidate, is going there to pardon people like Romanovsky, – believes Cesar Tomczyk.

In Hungary, this topic is becoming more and more popular
This topic is becoming more and more popular in Hungary. It is true that Orbán's subordinate media does not say much about him, but the independent television station of the government voices the opposition leader, who says that the asylum to Romanovsky will involve Hungary in an international scandal.
– It is more typical of Viktor Orbán's regime that he welcomes fallen dictators and wanted criminals (…) I think it is really sad that Hungary is involved in such an international scandal – says Peter Magyar, member of the Hungarian Parliament and leader of the opposite .
– Hungary is willing to withdraw from its allies. Poland was one of our closest allies. I don't know how all this will end, explains the Hungarian journalist Sabolch Pani.

After a year and a half, parliamentary elections will be held in Hungary. For the first time in the last 14 years, the opposition has a real chance to win. The issue of asylum for the Polish politician is already part of the campaign.
– If Orbán is not aware yet, he will soon realize that he can lose the election because he shows that he is afraid of these settlements. And they are also important for the Hungarian opposition, says Agnieszka Pomaska, a representative of the civil coalition.
