This is the most difficult night for animals. Fireworks are pleasing to the human eye, but the noise is unbearable for dogs, cats, birds and forest animals. The solution to this problem was found by a resident of Poznań, who organizes New Year’s Eve in a historical shelter in order not to oppress the animals.
Mrs. Anna Sevcik organizes a New Year party for animals in Poznan. He has three cats personally. Together with them, he hides from the explosions of fireworks in the historic Prussian shelter. – There are only two rooms where you can hear the light knocking, you told me about it a year ago, and besides, you can miss midnight here, – says Mrs. Anna.
It’s been three years since the New Year’s Eve underground, but there has never been such interest as this year. – Five rooms will be occupied there, and there will be a record number of dogs – 15. There is a lady who comes every year, she stays alone with three yorks – says Mrs. Anna.

A relic of the past is located in the Grunwaldzki Social Park. Workshops for children and adults are organized here every day. – This refuge is such a rare place that it cannot be found anywhere, on any map, on the eve of the New Year. It’s for people who want to make sure their dogs aren’t afraid of fireworks, says Ms Anna.

Appeal from shelter
Despite the annual calls for shooting on New Year’s Eve, many people can’t imagine ringing in the year any other way. What is pleasing to the human eye is intolerable and stressful for animals, including shelter animals. – There were cases when a frightened animal broke itself, – admits Jacek Kolata, director of the Homeless Animal Shelter in Kalisz.
– Animals have better hearing than humans, so they hear the sound of this shot more, – notes Jacek Soznik, a veterinarian. “Usually, after the new year, there are about 8-10 nervous dogs and their owners who dig their animals,” says Eva Mrugowska, director of the Shelter for Homeless Animals in Szczecin.
Hence the appeal of the director of the shelter in Kalish. – First of all, we invite all residents and volunteers who want to take part in calming our animals on New Year’s Eve, – encourages Jacek Kolata.

It is not possible to isolate the cages during the day or bring all the animals into the building. Human presence can relieve this pressure.
The first volunteers have already responded to the appeal of the shelter director in Kalish. – I ask my mother and father if I can spend time with them in the shelter, because when I look at them, I feel very sorry – says Amelia, a resident of Kalish. When our dog was still alive, every year on New Year’s Eve we would take him down to the basement or house to sit with us because he was so scared of fireworks and all that and we know he was happy when he was with us and calm, – remembers the resident of Kalish, Yakub Skovronsky.

Actions of politicians and advisers in Szczecin
Instead of fireworks, dozens of kilograms of food for homeless animals – this is the idea to welcome the New Year by politicians and local government officials from Szczecin, who encourage residents to follow suit.
– We appeal to the residents of our city not to shoot on New Year’s Eve, but to help the animal shelter. We do this every year, says Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchevka. – I’m appealing, please, I’m begging. I don’t know if you know how the animal shakes when these explosions happen, and we are happy, says Urzula Panka, a consultant from Szczecin.

– Think about why you want to spend money on the sound of crackers and fireworks, which will only be garbage, – notes Andrzej Radzivinovic, a consultant from Szczecin.
For years, there has been a loud debate about abandoning this New Year’s Eve tradition, but nothing new has been heard so far. – There are three draft laws in the Sejm that talk about banning fireworks on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Eve, and I hope that when we meet here next year, these rules will come into force, – reminds Przemysław Slovik. representative of Szczecin.
