Vaclav Havel Airport in Prague was closed on Sunday evening due to black ice on the runways. The roads are also slippery, and trucks and buses have trouble on the hills.
Airport officials urged travelers to check the status of individual flights on the airport’s website. There are also problems with public transport routes that reach the terminals.
The biggest problems are shown by roads that go through hills and mountains. Trucks and buses have difficulty climbing the hills. Road officials appealed to drivers not to drive on mountain roads without chains on their wheels. The D5 highway, which leads from Pilsen to Prague, was impassable for several hours.
Warning in many places
With the exception of a few areas in Silesia and the southern part of the Czech Republic, a black ice or snow warning is in effect across the country. Meteorologists emphasize that the temporary cessation of rainfall does not mean its end. A new wave of rain is moving from the west over the Czech Republic. It’s raining or raining heavily. It is still snowing in the mountains.
On Sunday, due to the difficult weather conditions, people using UK airports also had to deal with problems. Due to the snowfall, several airports stopped their operations.
