The story of Amal, an architect who gave birth to her second son on the day of the Hamas attack on Israel, shows how multifaceted the issue of responsibility for the situation in the Gaza Strip is. In the most difficult moment, when the war started, the woman was left alone with two small children. The second year he tries to save them from starvation or bombing. The story he told us is very different from Israel’s official statement that it does not attack civilians as part of its fight against Hamas.
Amal Alabadla is an architect and mother of two sons. His youngest son was born on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants attacked Israel.
– I woke up from the sound of the explosion. The ground was shaking and I felt paralyzing fear. I was holding my two-year-old Noah in my arms, still carrying Muhammad under my heart. All that mattered was their safety, says Amal Alabadla, a resident of the Gaza Strip and mother of two.
“Doctors said I will lose the baby”
There were explosions everywhere. – I was bleeding for four hours and tried to be transferred to the hospital. The taxi driver who finally picked me up dropped me in the middle of the street. I had to carry Noah and run to look for another car while my body was weak. When I got to the hospital, the doctors said that I would lose the baby. When I heard Muhammad’s cry, I felt that it was a miracle. I was happy that she was born alive, says Amal Alabadla.
Almost immediately, basic food products disappeared from the market. Getting food has become a big problem for the residents.
– It has become almost impossible for children to get food, a drop of water or milk. We could only get water once a week and every pipe was like gold. I couldn’t breastfeed Muhammad, so I struggled every day to find formula for him. Sometimes I had to travel very far, says Amal Alabadla.

During one such trip to buy groceries, the car she was driving found herself in the line of fire of Israeli tanks. – They shot at us. We had to run away. It was the most terrifying moment. I don’t know how I survived that day, says Amal Alabadla.
Any place Amala’s family found suitable for shelter sooner or later became a target. The building where she lived with her children was bombed. They were present during the attack, but what saved them was that the apartment was on the first floor.
“After every escape, I left everything we had collected.”
– I ran to the street holding the children in my arms. After each escape, I left everything we had collected. Every start was something new, empty handed, says Amal Alabadla. -Noah often gets sick and is always close to me. He does not want to go to other places, he is afraid of the sound of bombings. Mohammed feels our pressure, even though he doesn’t yet understand what is happening. I am constantly afraid – either another bomb will fall on us or not, – says the woman.

Amal Alabadla does not want to raise her children in the war zone and continues to try to leave the Gaza Strip, but to no avail – the border remains closed. “We all want to save our children, but they won’t let us leave,” says Amal Alabadla. and they will be healthy.
