IMWM has issued a meteorological warning. The most difficult conditions associated with snow, ice and sleet occur in the northern and southern regions of Poland. Orange and yellow alerts are in effect.
Meteorologists of the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued second and first level meteorological warnings on an ascending scale.
Warning for IMWM level 2 – snow
Orange alerts are in effect in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Tatra, Nowy Szach and Gorlice counties.
Moderate snowfall is predicted in these areas, resulting in an increase of 30 cm and in some places 40 cm of snow.
The warning will remain in effect until 8 a.m. Monday.
IMWM first level warnings – heavy snow
Difficult snowfall conditions are also occurring in the following voivodships:
Lesser Poland, in Podkarpackie, in the following poviats: Jaslo, Krosno, Krosno, Sanok, Lesko, Bieszczady;
Snowfall is expected, which will increase the snow layer by 20 cm, in some places by 30 cm.
Notifications expire at 8am on Monday.
IMWM Level 1 Warnings – Ice
Yellow warnings apply in the following voivodeships:
Pomerania, in the poviats of Gdynia, Sopot, Gdańsk, Gdańsk, Novi Dvor, Malbork, Stum, Kwidzyn, Tczew, Starogard, Warmian-Masurian, in the poviats of Branjevo, Elblag, Elblag, Ostrowda, Ostrava.
In the mentioned areas, roads and sidewalks are expected to become wet after rain, snow and sleet, resulting in ice. The minimum temperature is about -3 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature on the ground is about -5 degrees Celsius.
Notifications close at 10am on Monday.
IMWM Level 1 Warnings – Freezing Precipitation
The notice applies in the following voivodeships:
Polish Silesia, except for the eastern and southern districts.
Light freezing rain causing black ice is still observed and forecast locally.
The warning will be in effect until 12pm on Monday.
