Pope Francis’ health issues
Pope Francis is battling a number of health issues. He had part of his intestine removed in 2021, and underwent abdominal hernia surgery in 2023. During last year’s Easter celebrations, the chief minister canceled participation in the traditional Stations of the Cross at the Colosseum, said to have been due to a respiratory infection. He also suffers from knee disease.
In 2022, he begins using a wheelchair, but as he explains in his recently published autobiography, he hates looking in this “version” and is particularly troubled by it. At St. Martha’s house, he often uses a cane to walk.
