Trenches and fortifications have appeared near the border between Belarus and Lithuania, Radio Swoboda reported. The editors are referring to satellite photos taken in December. The new fortress could be part of a “node of resistance” announced by Belarusian authorities.
Trenches for infantry and military equipment have appeared near Chernushka in the Grodno region, on the edge of a military training ground in the northwestern part of the country. The town is located about 6 kilometers from the border of Belarus and Lithuania.
As highlighted by Radio Svoboda, the Belarusian Ministry of Defense announced a year ago that it would build fortifications in the region. However, in October 2023, Alexander Lukashenko spoke about the need to prepare several reinforced “resistance nodes”.
The point of such preparation, according to the dictator, is to prepare to defend the country in the places of “the most likely attack.”

The fortress was built in the “Puszcza Grodzieńska” reserve. Previous satellite images show that fortifications began to be built in the area at the turn of 2022-2023. Military experts said in interviews with Radio Svoboda that the fortress looks unfinished.
In January 2025, the Belarusian Ministry of Defense announced that it would hold military exercises at a nearby training ground.
