Monaco, Ostia, located near Rome, and Plose, Croatia, were listed by the British newspaper “The Telegraph” on the list of seaside destinations to avoid. For balance, cities are also suggested that tourists can enjoy.
Although many associate Monaco with beauty and elegance, it did not leave a good impression on travel author Anthony Peregrine.
– It’s a self-sufficient bubble of extravagance, luxury and lots of police. The view is amazing – the mountains directly behind it, the Mediterranean Sea in front. However, the audience is based on wealth, and ordinary eaters have irresistible pieces in Neverland – this is how the expert described Monaco in “The Telegraph”.

“I would never dare to go back there”
Ostia, an ancient port city near Rome, cannot be praised either. Although this is probably where the Romans went when they were on holiday by the sea, Tim Jepson advises against Ostia’s beaches.
– Even for someone who still had little comparison about beaches, it was clear that while the sand looked more or less good, the water was really something to avoid. Rows of modern apartment blocks as a backdrop with little greenery didn’t help. Maybe the water is better now: I never dared to go back there, writes Jepson, who visited Ostia in his youth.
Plose, Kemer, Laganas
Croatia also has an embarrassing place that usually attracts tourists with its sights. The town of Plose, located roughly between Dubrovnik and Split, is out of it. It’s a neglected port with a petrochemical terminal and grain silos, warns Jane Foster.
Moreover, the Turkish city of Kemer in Antalya province should be avoided. – This is completely out of character. Collections of lifeless hotels, concierges, water parks, restaurants and shops combine to create a lifeless combination of the ‘Truman Show’ and a holiday camp, Terry Richardson describes.
The Andalusian town of La Linea de la Concepcion was also included in the infamous list, as well as Laganas on the Greek island of Zakynthos and the resort of Albufeira in southern Portugal.
The most beautiful seaside towns
In turn, The Telegraph’s most beautiful beach towns include Collioure in France, Cefalù in Sicily and Comportaro in Portugal.
“The village itself has preserved its beauty and is full of characteristic whitewashed buildings with blue hues. Just enter one of the shops to feel the atmosphere of the south of France. It is a fusion of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. Beautiful and carefree,” writes Mary Luciana in about the last location.
Rovinj in Croatia, Llafranc in Spain, Sitia in Crete and Çirali in Turkey also received awards.
