The government said the agreement would rationalize previous contracts and incentives and provide more effective delivery, which would cause saving of 400 million pounds sterling.
In addition to providing support to the current fleet of the Royal Royal Navy submarines, Unity includes the construction and commission of the new Dreadnought class submarines and the start of contracts for the new Aukus defense alliance.
In March 2023, it was announced that Rolls-Royce would provide the reactors of the new fleet of nuclear submarines in a defense agreement between the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia.
Submarines will be built in Britain and Australia, but will use the technology of the three countries.
The company opened a new academy of nuclear skills in Derby in 2022, designed to provide 200 learning each year for at least a decade.
“ Motor for growth ”
Mr. Healey will use the visit to highlight the government’s “triple-glassmaker” on nuclear deterrence, which includes the construction of four new nuclear submarines in Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, maintaining the continuous nuclear deterrence of the continuous nuclear deterrent United Kingdom and providing all the necessary future improvements.
He said: “This investment in the defense of Great Britain will produce a long-term boost to British affairs, jobs and national security.
“In accordance with our change plan, this agreement with Rolls-Royce, a British historical success, will support high-end British jobs, which equip the thousands of submarines that ensure us all safe.
“We show that defense can be a growth engine, while driving better value for taxpayers’ money.”
Steve Carlier, president of Rolls-Royce Submarines, said: “We are delighted to announce the unit contract, which confirms our commitment to the Royal Navy and the Nuclear Defense Company.
“This long -term contract allows us to invest in the right skills, equipment and installations to play our role in protecting British interests at home and abroad.”
The Rolls-Royce submarines already double the size of its Raynesway site and have recently started to move into warehouses specially built in Pride Park.
