Photo example/Damage caused by another cabal in the Baltic Sea
An undersea fiber optic cable in the Baltic Sea between the west coast of Latvia and the Swedish island of Gotland was damaged on Sunday morning. According to Latvian media, everything points to the influence of external factors. The country’s Prime Minister Ebika Sirisha convened a meeting of ministries and services responsible for security.
According to Latvian broadcaster LSM, the damage to the submarine cable was probably caused by an “external impact.”
Data communication outages have been recorded between the Latvian city of Ventspils and the island of Gotland.

So far, this damage has not had a major impact on service provision in Latvia. The incident is being investigated by the service and other data transmission methods are being used, the LSM portal reported.
– The military investigated a ship near the crash site. Furthermore, the Commander of the Latvian Armed Forces and Navy, Admiral Maris Polenc, said at a press conference that the movement of troops in this area is being checked.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated in this case. Because the cable is located at a depth of more than 50 meters, the exact cause can only be determined once repairs have begun.

In response to the situation, Prime Minister Ebika Sirisha convened a meeting of the ministries responsible for security. He told a press conference that Latvia is preparing for a potential crisis and that data transmission via alternative routes is therefore planned.
He added that cooperation with NATO and Baltic Sea region countries continues to clarify the situation and investigate the incident.
The prime minister added that he had been in touch with the prime ministers of the three Baltic states. The Swedish Coast Guard was asked to participate in the investigation. Stockholm pledged to provide all necessary assistance.
