South Korean singer Koo Jun-Yup paid tribute to her late Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu who died earlier this week, saying that “the angel was returned to paradise”.
In an article on Instagram, Koo added that he was crossing “indescribable sorrow” and a moment of “heartbreaking pain”.
HSU, one of the largest stars in the mandarin language world, would have fallen ill and died later as she visited Japan with family members.
The sudden death of the 48 -year -old star sent shock waves in the entertainment industry. She was best known for her role in the 2001 Meteor Garden television series, which has become a success in large parts of Asia.
“On February 2, 2025, my angel returned to paradise … At the moment, I am going through a period of heartbreaking pain,” Koo wrote in an article on Instagram on Thursday.
In his article, Koo, better known by his stage name, DJ Koo, also called for his family to be left alone in their sorrow.
“Before I can even cry and cry correctly this huge loss, some heartless people began to defame my family and our love.
“Please, can you just let Hsu rest in peace?” Koo wrote.
His comments come after several media reports in Chinese published speculating reports which inherit the succession of HSU, which would include a real estate portfolio worth several million dollars. The BBC is unable to check these details.
“All HSU’s advantages were won thanks to her hard work to support the family she loved, so I decided to fully give the authority over them to my mother-in-law,” Koo then said.
“As for the share of children, I take legal measures through a lawyer to ensure that bad people cannot touch it, protecting it until they reach adulthood.”
HSU and KOO met for the first time in 1998. At the time, HSU and his sister were hosts on a program of popular varieties, and Koo, who was part of a duo of K-POP, clon, was an interlocutor in the show.
They finally started to go out together but then broke up, apparently because Koo’s management was opposed to the relationship.
HSU then married the Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei, with whom she had two children. The couple got married for 10 years, before an acrimonious divorce in 2021.
After their divorce, HSU reconnected with Koo and they got married in 2022.
His death shocked fans through Asia, where Meteor Garden – an adaptation of boys from the Japanese manga series on Flowers – was broadcast and doubled in local languages.
HSU was also known for organizing Taiwanese varieties programs, often with the younger sister Dee. In the 1990s, the sisters were part of a pop SOS duo, which gave them their respective stage names, Big S and Little S.
His remains were brought back to Taiwan on Thursday, local media reported.
