The PlayStation Network is now back online, the service said, after having experienced a several -hour breakdown that started on Friday evening.
PlayStation said the network had now been “completely restored” and apologized for the disruption, but did not reveal what caused the problem.
The breakdown has rendered online aspects of games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto and Marvel Rivaux inaccessible and caused problems with the verification of solo game license offline.
According to Downdector, the problem started just before midnight Friday evening.
In a message on X, PlayStation said: “Network services have completely recovered from an operational problem. We apologize for the embarrassment caused and thank the community for their patience.
“All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive 5 additional days.”
The failure has led to a flood of complaints on social networks around the world.
Jeff Thigpen, 48, from Dallas to the United States, told the BBC: “Paying monthly costs for their service is one thing, but not being able to play games that we have bought is something that is beyond frustration. “
The breakdown occurred during a key weekend for the game industry, according to Connor Clarke, who directs the Sheffield Games Collective.
He said it was “doubly frustrating because it is a hectic weekend for the game sphere”.
“There is a free beta version for a highly anticipated new game called Monster Hunter Wilds, as well as a double weekend XP in Call of Duty Black Ops 6,” he said, adding that the breakdown would have left Thousands of players around the world “quite frustrated that they are unable to play”.
