Tiktok is again available in Apple and Google American application stores, after President Donald Trump postponed the application of a social media platform belonging to Chinese until April 5 .
The popular application, which is used by more than 170 million American users, was briefly dark last month in the United States, as the deadline for prohibition.
Trump then signed a decree granting Tiktok an extension of 75 days to comply with a law prohibiting the application if it is not sold.
Tiktok did not immediately respond to a request for comments from BBC News.
According to Bloomberg, who reported for the first time Tiktok’s return to application stores to the United States, the decision to resume his availability after Apple and Google received insurance from the Trump administration that ‘They would not be responsible for authorizing downloads, and the ban would not be yet applied.
The ban, which was adopted with a bipartite vote at the congress, was promulgated by former president Joe Biden. He ordered the Chinese owner of Tiktok to sell the American version of the platform to a neutral part to avoid a pure and simple ban.
Biden administration had argued that Tiktok could be used by China as a tool for spying and political manipulation.
China and Tiktok have repeatedly denied these accusations. Beijing has also already rejected calls for the sale of US Tiktok operations.
The law prohibiting the application was supported by American legislators on both sides of the aisle and was finally confirmed by the Supreme Court.
Trump himself had supported the ban on the application during his first mandate, but he seemed to have a change of heart last year during the presidential race.
He professed a “warm place” for the application, praising the billions of views he says that his videos attracted to the platform during the presidential campaign last year.
When the application started to operate in the United States again last month, a contextual message was sent to its millions of users who thanked Trump by name.
Tiktok’s general manager Shou Chew met Trump in Mar-A-Lago after his electoral victory in November and then attended his inauguration ceremony.
Trump said he wanted to find a compromise with the Chinese company that complies with the spirit rather than the letter of law, even making an idea of Tiktok held jointly.
“What I think I say to someone is buying it and giving half the United States half, and we will give you a license,” he recently said at a conference of Press on artificial intelligence.
And he also declared that it would be open to the sale of the application to the co-founder of Oracle Larry Ellison, as well as to the billionaire Elon Musk, who heads the Ministry of Efficiency of the Trump Administration Government .
The previous names linked to the purchase of Tiktok include billionaire Frank McCourt and the Canadian businessman Kevin O’Leary – a famous investor on Shark Tank, the American version of Dragon’s Den.
The biggest Youtuber in the world Jimmy Donaldson – alias MRBEAST – also said he was in the running after a certain number of investors contacted him after posting on social networks that he was interested.
